Confessions of a Shopaholic

Today is Presidents Day which means both my husband and I were off from work. We ended up heading to the movies to view Confessions of a Shopaholic. It was a really cute girl type of comedy. The movie had several really funny scenes that hit home! Oh . . . and I got to see the trailer for the next Transformers movie!!!! Way cool :-)

Bham Street Lights

I believe it was sometime in Jan. that I became very frustrated with my drive home. I noticed that once I got on the Red Mountain expressway and all the way to HWY 280 that it was extremely difficult to see the road during the rainy night with all the street lights that were out. I can remember going to work the next day venting to my coworkers about this issue. The next night I decided to count the number that were out. As of today, I can't remember the exact number but it was well over 20 lights that were out just in that small section. The next day I did some research and found out that there was a department responsible for these light outages. So I placed a call and found out they do service that area and the gentlemen thanked me for reporting and took my information. This week my husband woke me to listen to a news report on Fox regarding the street lights. I posted below the article I was able to find online about the street lights. Looks like its a bigger problem and may not be fixed anytime soon.

Langford: Too Many Lights Out in BirminghamBirmingham Mayor Larry Langford says there are so many lights out on Birmingham interstates that it's become an emergency in need of fixing. The mayor is asking the city council to approve 700-thousand dollars to fix the lights along just this stretch of interstate between Tallapoosa Street and the Ensley area. Langford says there are more than 600 lights out and 150 light poles down or damaged. He says a previous administration chose not to join a state maintenance program, and now the city will have to pay to make repairs. The city will also have to pay about 300-thousand a year to join the state's maintenance program. None of this can happen unless the city council approves a funding request for this money. A vote could happen as early as next week.

Mercedes Kids Marathon

My niece participated in the Mercedes Kids Marathon taking place at Lynn Park in downtown Birmingham. We are so proud of her and really enjoyed being there to cheer her on as she completed that last mile of the program which lasted five months.

Tavern on the Summit

Friday night we headed out to one of our favorite dining locations, Tavern on the Summit, which has an English Tavern atmosphere. It was Valentine's Day weekend and we were well prepared for a lengthy wait, hence part of the reason why we did not leave the house until 8pm. Upon arrival, the person in front of us putting their name on the list was told it was a 45 minute wait. Just as we were about to put our name on the list the owner, who my husband knows from doing business while working for at Fedx-Kinkos, walked up to the front and told us to step to the side. He had us seated in a matter of minutes at one of the reserved tables by the bar. We were sooooo thankful!!! We ordered our usual - Filet Mignon with the Sterling Vintner's red wine. As always our meal and dining experience was excellent!!!! I so wish we could go more often!

Park

Sunday was absolutely a beautiful day to be outside. We decided to take the dogs to one of the nearby parks so they too could enjoy the weather. We walked around the track and stopped for a moment to look at the fish and geese in the water. The dogs had no interest, for they wanted to keep moving. Auburn only barked and carried on at one dog in the very beginning of our walk, of course it was a Newfoundland! We walked around the park for about an hour and I believe both were pretty pooped by the end of our outing!

He's Just Not That Into You

Saturday afternoon I headed off to the movies to see He's Just Not That Into You. This is definitely a chick flick! The movie had several great actors in the movie, i.e Jennifer Anniston, Ben Affleck, Brew Barrymore, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Connelly, Kevin Connelly, Ginnifer Goodwin, Scarlett Johansson, and Justin Long. I think I may have to get to book to read in my spare time.
